Galle has so much more to offer than just its attractions and the famous historic fort. The Old Dutch Market, also known as Green Market in Galle is a marketplace popular among the locals as well as tourists. The market is situated in a 300 year old european style structure supported by large white pillars is just a 10-minute drive away from Unawatuna.

On the western side of town, this impressive T-shaped building enchants the architectural buffs which has an immense, steeply pitched roof with three conical towers and a grand peak entrance. It’s open-sided and backed by colossal wooden columns and beams.

Some of the freshest produce you can commonly find in the market is wood apple and rambutan which is also native to the area and is some of the local favorites. Other staple food ingredients used for cooking Sri Lankan dishes can also be found at this marketplace.
