If you are interested in learning about Sri Lanka’s colonial past, a visit to the Maritime Archaeology Museum is well worth it! One of the best things about the location of this museum is it is inside a Dutch Warehouse from the 1970s and showcases some models of boats, maps and shipwrecks.
The most common finds in this museum are the items from chinese shipwrecks such as ceramics and relics which have been well preserved over the years. What’s even more interesting about this museum is that it has life-like depictions of real people during the period 12,000-10,000 BP. Exhibits of marine habitats of wetlands, mangroves, corals and beaches can also be found here.
Make sure to visit this colonial site on your next visit to Galle Fort!
