Unawatuna always brings the idea of the clear blue sea, gushing waves, the golden sandy beach and the awful lot of beach activities that can be enjoyed in the beach. It may not totally be only that, it’s a whole package of fun and exciting adventures. After a quick dip in its beautiful waters there are many more places that can be visited and most importantly enjoyed. Unawatuna has a great touch of religion holding many landmarks which are Japanese Peace Pagoda, Yatagala Raja Maha Viharaya, Unawatuna Devol Devalaya.
A most visited place of them all is the Peace Pagoda built by Japanese monks, in addition to religious sculptures you can experience a fun hike to the location from the west end of the Unawatuna beach and also get the spell binding view of the sunset from th Galle Bay.
Visit Yatagala Raja Maha Viharaya to get the view of sculptures and monuments 2300 years down in history. This Buddhist place of worship has been a recipient of Royal Patronage from Three Kings of Sri Lanka. Visit to this temple will definitely give a different experience from Unawatuna.
Another location of religious significance in Unawatuna is Unawatuna Devol Devalaya consisting of statues and monuments of Buddhist culture. This place also attracts tourists as it is situated in an elevation and gives mesmerizing views.
